Abstract

Based on Reddy’s layerwise theory (RLWT) and the O(1) homogenization method, a three-scale layerwise multiscale analysis method (LMAM) is proposed for composite laminated plates. This method takes periodicity in both in-plane and thickness directions into account. The RLWT is utilized to discretize the macroscopic model of a composite laminated plate, and three-dimensional (3D) finite elements are used to establish the mesoscopic and microscopic cell models composed of fibers and matrix. The numerical simulation of square plate with inclusions is conducted by the presented LMAM, the results of which are compared with direct numerical simulation (DNS) and O(1) homogenization approach to verify the LMAM. The LMAM is also used to calculate and analyze the macroscopic, mesoscopic and microscopic stress distributions of woven composite laminated plates.
