Abstract

Hydrothermal reaction of 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H 3btc), 2,2′-bipyridine (bipy) and Zn(CH 3CO 2) 2·2H 2O gave rise to a three-dimensional polymer [Zn 3.5(μ 3-OH)(btc) 2(bipy) 2·H 2O] n ( 1). X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 consists of pentanuclear metal clusters and single metal centers bridged by btc 3−. The pentanuclear zinc(II) clusters are connected by btc 3− to give rise to a two-dimensional double layer motif. The neighbor double layers are further joined by single metal centers to create a three-dimensional porous framework.
