Abstract

The article analyses modern church embroidery and defi nes artistic features of icon images in the works of embroiderers of the Old Russian sewing workshop “Pokrov” in Saint Petersburg. The author studies the historical conditions for the revival of the ancient art after several decades of prohibition and oblivion in Soviet times, and analyses today’s artistic and fi gurative compositional interpretations, stating their merits.
