Abstract

In recent years, The Lancet Respiratory Medicine has commissioned a single visual artist to create a collection of images for the journal's cover. But this year we're doing something different; for 2018 we have assembled a team of professional photographers from around the world and tasked them with documenting the most pressing respiratory health issues facing the communities in which they live and work. The issues being documented will range from illegal coal mining in Mongolia to smog in Beijing to tuberculosis in Malawi, among many others. Our hope is that the project will highlight lesser known respiratory issues as well as providing fresh perspectives on respiratory problems that remain underfunded and ignored despite being well understood.
