Abstract

In this chamber the ion current is shared between two terminations connected to opposite ends of a collecting electrode made of aluminized polyimide film which has been etched to provide a resistive grid extending across the sensitive region. The sum of the two pulse currents is proportional to the electron beam current and the difference between them is proportional to the displacement of the electron beam from the centre of the chamber times the beam current. The resulting system monitors electron beam displacement on a pulse by pulse basis and even displays motion during the pulse, while intercepting the beam with only 11 mg cm-2 of low Z, radiation resistant scattering material.
