Abstract

A nonmagnetic detector system utilizing time-of-flight technique has been developed to detect α-particles and protons produced from laser-fusion processes. This detector is also capable of detecting high energy ions in the hundred keV region. A thin-film plastic scintillator is used to sense the presence of the charged particles and an efficient off-axis parabolic reflector is employed to collect light into the photo-cathode of a fast photo-multiplier tube. With the appropriate amount of filtering this device also functions as a very useful X-ray monitor. 9488
