Abstract

This contribution describes a novel technique for evaluating the iron loss density distribution in a single phase induction motor using the temperature time method. This is achieved by measuring the temperature gradient which exists at any point within the machine when it is isolated from the supply. This method was used when the motor was lightly loaded. The measurements were carried out on a 200 W, 220 V, 4-pole, 1.6-A single phase induction motor.
