Abstract

The absolute heat capacity of compounds of the R 2Fe 14B series, with R = Nd, Gd, Er, and the nonmagnetic Lu and Y, together with the Lu 2Fe 14C have been measured through the Curie temperature region by differential scanning calorimetry with the heat pulse technique. The anomalous heat capacity have been deduced and the critical entropies analyzed. The results are discussed in connection to the L and S components of the 4f electrons of the rare earth element.
