Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a quantitative theoretical treatment for the intensities of inelastic electron-tunnelling spectra of vibrational modes of molecules and solids. The treatment, which uses an effective-charge model, seeks to show clearly the roles of the relevant physical parameters of the system, and it emphasizes the correspondence between analyses of spectra of molecular vibrations and of barrier phonons.
