Abstract

The spin-forbidden dipole-allowed radiative decay process BH(a[sup 3]II) [yields] BH(X[sup 1][Sigma][sup +]) is studied using second-order configuration interaction wave functions and the full Briet-Pauli spin-orbit Hamiltonian. The radiative lifetime of the (a[sup 3]II, v, N, F[sub i], elf) [yields] X[sup 1][Sigma][sup +] t transition was determined. The average radiative lifetime was found to be approximately 20 s for v = 0-3 with the shortest lifetime being longer than 10 s. 32 refs., 3 figs., 11 tabs.
