Abstract
The mathematical theory of plasticity is applied to the problem of a thin square plate, with a central circular hole, yielding under loads applied at its outside edges. Upper and lower bounds to the external loads at the yield point are determined for all values of the ratio between the diameter of the hole and the length of the side of the plate.
