Abstract

This paper considers the incompressible inviscid rotational flow through non-cylindrical annular ducts containing annular cascade actuator disks. Results of cylindrical and conical actuator disk theories are also drawn together for comparison. Particular attention is given to the properties of streamwise and smoke-ring vorticity components and their direct relationship to turbine and compressor design parameters of fluid angular momentum and total pressure. Solutions involving source/sink distributions in conjunction with actuator disks are derived for the analysis of the flow through axial turbo-machine annuli of arbitrary taper. One simple example is calculated from these solutions. Other examples have also been calculated using a combination of the singularity and finite difference techniques.
