Abstract

This paper deals with the study and analysis of the natural frequency of vibration and noise from engines and propellers. The effect of length between the perpendiculars (LBP) at the water line and deadweight (Dwt) of ULCC on the power requirement to propel the ship has been studied. The effect of service speed of ULCC on the frictional resistance and fuel consumption has also been studied and presented. The analysis has been carried out for the propeller diameter, propeller pitch and in the selection of number of blades to reduce vibration noise. The study of the effects of LBP and Dwt of the ULCC on the engine and propeller noise has been carried out and presented in the paper. The paper concludes with the comparison of natural frequencies obtained by an analytical approach with the Finite Element Analysis using Ansys.
