Abstract
The total photoionization cross section is calculated for neon (Z = 10) near the 1s threshold using the relativistic random-phase approximation, the relativistic random-phase approximation modified to include relaxation effects, and the relativistic random-phase approximation modified to include relaxation effects and Auger decay. Comparisons are made between theoretical calculations and experimental data. The need to include Auger decay along with relaxation is demonstrated.
