Abstract

The theory of flexible rotor balancing developed in recent years is analyzed in this paper. A relation between the modal balancing and the influence coefficient methods, which are the two main techniques of balancing, is established which is a unified expression of both methods. Then the theory and method of low speed balancing for flexible rotors are investigated and a formulation of these is proposed with a set of conditions. The theory presented is a unification and development of the modal balancing and influence coefficient techniques, and shows that flexible rotors can be balanced at low speed, so that no high speed balancing is needed when certain conditions are met.
