Abstract
A TG method developed for the analysis of reaction products in fluidized-bed coal combustion processes in which limestone is added for sulphur capture was modified and further refined. The method is now capable of determining H 2O, Ca(OH) 2, CaCO 3, carbonaceous materials, CaSO 4 and Fe 2O 3 in the samples. The viability and accuracy of the method were verified by analysing reagent grade mixtures and fluidized-bed samples from a pilot-scale fluidized-bed coal combustion process and comparing the results with those of other methods. The TG method may be used to monitor the efficiency of coal combustion and limestone utilization in fluidized-bed processes.
