Abstract

This is the third edition of a well-accepted textbook of neurology. The first edition came out in 1955. The following two editions appeared at four-year intervals attesting to the author's industry and interest in keeping his work up to date. Dr. Merritt writes with the authority of an experienced critical clinician, teacher, and researcher. He is well-qualified to write this type of book and the result is adequate proof of his superior ability. The book itself retains much of the already excellent format. There are ten chapters which are really sections dealing with major groups of diseases, such as infections, vascular lesions, tumors, trauma, developmental defects, etc. Each subject is discussed in a concise manner. There is no effort to debate fine points of an academic nature, for example regarding etiology of a disease, but nevertheless enough is presented for the average physician or student to get a birdseye
