Abstract

The hyperfine structure of the line λ 4722 of the arc spectrum of bismuth was investigated with a Fabry-Perot interferometer. After corrections were made for the mutual influence of the components, deviations from the Landé interval rule were observed in the 2D 3 2 state. These are accounted for by the addition of a cos 2 term to the usual law of interaction.
