Abstract
The motivating potential of the job, intrinsic motivation, and perception of internal control over performance, were measured before and after an incentive program was introduced in a work organization. Results did not support Deci's theory that contingent extrinsic reward decreases intrinsic motivation because it reduces the perception of personal causation.
