Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss Paul Tillich’s theory of symbols and its hermeneutic implications to language, culture, history and the human being. After that, there will be an attempt to compare a few of its aspects with postmodernism, chiefly in relation to the impossibility of language to express the real and the sacred in contrast with Tillich’s conception of symbol.
