Abstract

A tensile stage measuring about 50 mm*100 mm has been constructed to fit onto the goniometer of a Lang or other camera for X-ray topography. It is designed primarily for specimens of relatively strong metals with gauge dimensions 10 mm*5 mm*0.1 mm. Loads up to 300 N can be applied and measured using a cantilever beam and capacitance transducer; a similar transducer could be used to measure strain. The design incorporates precision linear bearings to minimize specimen bending and a topograph taken using an Fe-Si alloy specimen is shown.
