Abstract

A temperature stabilized and high timing resolution time-to-digital converter (TDC) using a variable power supply control multi-path gated ring oscillator is presented in this paper. To achieve a sub-gate delay resolution, a multi-path ring oscillator is used. The temperature stabilized gated ring oscillator is based on measuring the frequency of the gated ring oscillator by a frequency-to-voltage converter (FVC) and locking that voltage to a stable voltage reference. The frequency of the gated ring oscillator was approximately 2.1 GHz, achieving a resolution of 5 ps. Its inaccuracy is −0.15ps∼0.38ps under temperature range −40°C∼150°C.
