Abstract

In this work we present a detailed investigation of the adsorption of CO on a well defined Pt(111) surface with low-temperature Single-Crystal-Adsorption-Calorimetry (SCAC) by measuring the coverage dependent adsorption enthalpies at 150 K, 250 K, 300 K and 350 K. Considerable changes in the coverage dependent differential and integral adsorption enthalpies with temperature indicate an order–disorder transition into the fluid phase which becomes apparent in a significant increase in the corresponding heat capacity of the CO adlayer.
