Abstract

The measurements of turbulence in the deep ocean, especially close to bottom, are extremely sparse due to the difficulties of obtaining measurements at these depths. Recently, we have developed a new technology, using an expendable instrument (VMP-X, Vertical Microstructure Profiler - eXpendable), that is depth rated for 6000 m, and thus is able to reach the sea bottom and capable of measuring boundary mixing.
