Abstract

Results of the testing of new refractory materials for the lining of steel ladles are reported. Refractories based on coarsely crystalline periclase (98% MgO) for the slag zone with an endurance of 55 – 60 heats and wear rate of 2.3 mm/heat were tested. For the bottom lining of the steel ladle, alumina-periclase-carbon refractories using fused or sintered alumomagnesian spinels are developed. Performance characteristics of the newly developed refractory materials are discussed.
