Abstract

ABSTRACTSalvage excavations of the Barnett Site, Nye County, Nevada, revealed burial pits, hearths, and midden dating to about 1950 B.P. Grave goods from one of the burials included five large obsidian Humboldt Basal Notch points and a bone tool. Analysis of these artifacts leads us to conclude that the points were manufactured shortly before their use as grave goods, specifically for that purpose, and most probably by a single person. The bone tool is most probably the tip of a composite pressure-flaker that could have been used to complete the points.
