Abstract

Abstract The low Threshold Limit Values (TLV) of halogenated hydrocarbons tax the sensitivity of the conventional analytical techniques used for their quantitative analysis in air. A combustion tube technique using a phenol red absorbing solution is described which can detect one-tenth of the present TLV's of methyl iodine, methyl bromide and carbon tetrachloride and concentrations of one ppm or less of other halogenated hydrocarbons in a 10-liter air sample.
