Abstract
A method is described for instillation of radioactive colloidal gold into serous cavities which has some advantages over other techniques in common use. It is our practice in this department to instil up to 150 mCi of radioactive gold (198Au) in colloidal suspension as a palliative measure in malignant ascites (Muller, 1950; Dybicki, Balchum and Meneely, 1959), and sometimes on prophylactic grounds where at previous operation a malignant ovarian tumour has ruptured into the general peritoneal cavity. Malignant pleural effusions are treated by a smaller quantity of the isotope (75 mCi).
