Abstract

Dissection of the cord structures during herniorrhaphy in term infants may result in inadvertant mobilization of the testes from its gubernaculum attachments. Additionally, inguinal hernias in premature infants may be associated with ipsilateral cryptorchidism. However, creation of a subdartos pouch for fixation of the testis is generally unnecessary in this group of patients. We have devised a simple technique for fixation of the testis in this setting which will prevent subsequent testicular entrapment or torsion of the surgically mobilized or cryptorchid infantile testis.
