Abstract

A new type of TE-TM mode splitter is proposed, which uses an asymmetric Y-junction with a gap region. It does not require external electric field and can be fabricated by only titanium diffusion technique. The transmission characteristics of the splitter are simulated by means of the beam propagation method (BMP). The results show that the power splitting ratios for TE-TM modes are 20.3 dB and 23.5 dB, respectively and the excess losses both are below 0.25 dB.
