Abstract

The genus Trypherus LeConte, 1851 has dozens of species distributed in East Asia, but a few known in the mainland of China. In the present study, a large series of Chinese Trypherus material available allows us to make a taxonomic study. As a result, T. nankineus var. obscurimembris Pic, 1933 is removed from synonym of T. nankineus Pic, 1913 and reinstated as a valid species, T. obscurimembris Pic, 1933 stat. nov. Meanwhile, T. plagiocephalus Brancucci, 1983 is supplementarily described and illustrated to better understand its variation in structures of the aedeagus. Additionally, a new species is discovered and described under the name of T. sinensis sp. nov. (China: Fujian). They are illustrated with habitus and genital segments of both sexes, aedeagus and internal genitalia of females. Besides, the generic diagnosis is resummarized and an identification key to all Trypherus species of the world is updated.
