Abstract

Abstract Wings of 43 species belonging to 9 genera of Indian Druchidac were studied for the first time to spell out their taxonomic bearing. Costal margin is normally straight but is medially notched in Caryedon and in Sulcobruchus its basal part is deeply depressed. Sc and Rl r1,ln together for some distance in Bruchus, Specularius, Spermophagus, Zabrotes and Caryedon and are parallel In other genera. Rs is usually a bold vein and ends in a strut but is very weak in Spermophagus; it may have 3 faint branches in apical region but only two'in Caryedon. Rs recurrent is represented only in Bruchus. M is obsolete at base and reaches the margin as M1 in 2-4 fragments in different genera; Mg+3 in aborted form is seen in Caryedon only. Cubitus mayor may not reach the margin as M4+ Cu. Three anals are present but A1 is missing in Specularius and the 3 are distally free in Caryedon. Anal recurrent ia represented in Callosobruchus, Conicobruchus and Zabrotes.
