Abstract
ABSTRACTThis article focuses on the transition in my treatment of Eric, from a more self-psychological perspective to a more relational stance. My thesis is that multiple theories may be necessary when conceptualizing and implementing the treatment of an individual, and, further, that a change in one’s listening approach can signal progress in analysis. I hope to demonstrate, through clinical material, how a shift in perspective is sometimes necessary to facilitate therapeutic change.
