Abstract

This case report seeks to highlight the possibility that exotic vector-borne disease may be present in dogs anywhere within the UK, including the northern parts of Scotland. Perhaps more importantly, it also demonstrates that multiple infections may be present in one patient, and that clinical disease may not be apparent until years after any history of foreign travel. Clinical signs and laboratory abnormalities associated with ehrlichiosis and heartworm may be relatively mild and non-specific, therefore a high index of suspicion may be necessary for successful diagnosis.
