Excessive belching is thought to result from repetitive swallowing or ingesting of air, known as aerophagia, which is believed to be a learned habit. To better understand this relatively common complaint, researchers assessed intraesophageal pH and intraluminal impedance recordings in 14 patients with excessive belching and 14 healthy controls.
