Abstract
In recognition of the seriousness of the world's food situation, and in Kenya particularly, this paper focuses on the application of systems methods snd modelling to small scale farm management and mechanisation. In the paper a farm level systems model is developed and the aim is to identify the production problems of the small-holder agriculture in a semi-arid area in Kenya. The overall model consists of an optimisation model and a simulation model which are used in tandem to analyse and evaluate various farm management schemes. The data used in this study has been collected from Kirinyagah District which is a medium potential (semi-arid) area in Kenya.
