Abstract

Abstract Twenty-one species of Oedemeridae are now known from the New Zealand subregion: eighteen endemic (including five new species), and three introduced species one of which is cosmopolitan. They belong in six genera, Nacerdes Faldermann, Selenopalpus White, Thelyphassa Pascoe, Baculipalpus Broun, Parisopalpus n.g., and Koniaphassa n.g. The morphology, and male and female genitalia are described and figured for all species. The type of alimentary canal, larvae and geographical distribution within New Zealand are discussed and described. The systematics and the position of the New Zealand species within the higher classification of related overseas Oedemeridae are considered.
