Abstract

Super austenitic stainless steel is a superior grade of stainless steel with numerous meritorious properties including resistance to corrosion, pitting, crevice, and acid attack. These advantages are attributed to the presence of various alloying elements at higher concentrations. Due to the same, this special alloy is employed for a wide range of applications that too in challenging environments including nuclear power plants, aerospace, and chemical processing industries. To uphold the properties of super austenitic stainless steel, employing proper welding techniques is equally important. This investigation reviews various welding techniques including gas metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, friction welding, laser welding, tungsten inert gas welding, activated tungsten inert gas welding, and hybrid laser welding used for joining different grades of super austenitic stainless steel.
