Abstract

The Nd-doped fiber laser operating at 1.08 μm has remained an excellent candidate for the study of dynamics in fiber lasers. Dynamical polarization properties of Nd-doped fiber lasers have first been reported in [1]. From the experimental point of view, the Nd-doped fiber laser behaves as a two-mode system where the modes correspond to the intensities of the fields polarized along the eigenaxes of the fiber. This fact led to a theoretical modeling of the experimental results in terms of standard two-mode laser equations where phenomenological population inversions and pumping parameters were introduced.
