Abstract

This report presents a syntactic approach to the recognition of fingerprint patterns. A brief description of fingerprints and Henry's classification is first presented. The fingerprint impressions are subdivided into sampling squares which are preprocessed for feature extraction. A class of context-free languages is used to describe the fingerprint patterns. The recognition is accomplished using a sequential parsing technique to reduce the time requirement.
