Abstract

In this work, we present the design and simulation of switchable zero-index metamaterials (ZIMs) implemented by split ring resonators (SRRs) loaded with active (PIN diode) switching elements. When the PIN diodes are switched off, it behaves as anisotropic ZIM. On the contrary, when the PIN diodes are switched on, it acts like free space. Simulation results have shown that the switchable ZIM can be used to tailor the wave front of a point source under the control of external bias.
