Abstract

Warehouse selection has a strategic significance for many organisations, and it is a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. The objective of the present paper is to identify and model critical success factors (CSFs) for the selection of sustainable warehouse for Indian chemical industries. Through literature survey and experts' opinions, 14 critical factors were identified, and the interpretive structural modelling (ISM) approach was used to establish interrelationship among the defined parameters and to determine the key criteria having high driving power. After analysing the factors, it was found that four selection parameters namely the availability of the technology, strategic geographic location, the climate of the region, and government policies and regulations were found to have high influencing power. On the other hand, there are three parameters namely, the overall cost of the warehouse, other organisations using the facility, effective water management provision were found to have high dependence and weak driving power. The developed ISM-based model is intended to guide the organisational managers in understanding the significance of the sustainable warehouse selection.
