A survey on the health status of radiographers in Qingyuan city

Abstract

Objestive To explore the health effect of long term low dose radiation exposure.Methods Through occupational epidemiological examination, a cross-section investigation was carried out on 220 radiation exposure workers in QingYuan. Results Even the dose was under the threshold limit 20mSv/a, the abnormal rate of both ophthalmologic examination and crystalline lens blurred significantly increased with the increasing of exposure age. The values of peripheral blood cell count were in normal range,and there had no statistic difference in each two groups both in man and wowen. Compared to the male exposure age both 5 ～ 15 years and ＞ 15 years groups, the abnormal rate of peripheral lymphacyte micronucleus had significantly statistic difference in male exposure age ＜5 years group. The values of concentration of T3,T4and TSH were in normal level, and compared to the male exposure age ＞ 15 years group, the values of concentration of TSH had significantly statistic difference in male exposure age ＜5 years group. Conclusions With the increasing of the age in low dose radiation exposure, the hazard is probably increasing. Great attention should be paid to long exposure age workers and enhance the management of radiation exposure. Key words: Radiographers; Occupational health; Survey
