Abstract

A questionnaire study was conducted on 85 apiculture farms registered at Igdir Beekeepers Association with the objective to examine honey production cost and total revenue in Igdir province of Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. In the study, in 63(%) of honey production costs was fxed costs, and the rest (37%) was variable costs. 50(%) of variable costs was sugar, comb foundation, and frame costs, whereas 78 (%) of fxed costs was family labor costs. Honey cost (20.65 TL kg -1 ) and selling price (41.16 TL kg -1 ) were calculated, net proft from sale honey of 1 kg was determined as 20.51 TL. Average net proft of 12 346 TL from producing honey of 601.94 kg was obtained per farm. Lower average for honey yield per hive was 9.78 kg in comparison with the average obtained in Turkey. To increase the yield per hive and the income obtained from beekeeping activity, it was recommendable that technical education should be provided for beekeepers together with working the superior bee breeds.
