Abstract

In 1994, a survey was undertaken to ascertain how undergraduate economics is being taught. The responses of undergraduate economics instructors indicate that lecture with the support of blackboard, textbook, and classroom discussion is the dominant teaching method in undergraduate economics today. Despite the predominance of lecture, many of the respondents indicated that they had changed their methods during the last five years in the direction of greater student participation in the form of more class discussion, use of questions, and group activities. Further, almost a third of the respondents had taken a course to improve teaching effectiveness during the last two years.
