Abstract

SUMMARY This paper reports on the 65 courses which were described by faculty responding to a questionnaire sent out by the authors to all industrial engineering university programmes in the US. The purpose of the questionnaire was to obtain information regarding the organization and content of simulation courses in industrial engineering programmes. This paper includes a summary of the responses, including the number of courses using various programming languages and textbooks, the proportion of courses teaching various simulation topics, examples of typical open-ended project assignments and many other course characteristics. The paper concludes by recommending future continuing dialog between faculty members involved in this teaching activity
