Abstract

Opinions were solicited on the existence of a temporomandibular joint pain-dysfunction syndrome and its etiologic factors, sequelae, and therapy in this survey of six groups of physicians and dentists. In general, the responses to this survey revealed widespread differences of opinion among both physicians and dentists on nearly every aspect of this syndrome. Also, it was found that many professionals still adhere to obsolete concepts of etiology and, therefore, use inappropriate therapies in treating MPD problems.
