A survey of clinical laboratory immunohematology performance.

Abstract

The 1966 National Comprehensive Laboratory Survey of the College of American Pathologists was sent to 1.754 laboratories, of which the large majority were in the United States. Replies from 992 laboratories were analyzed. The identification of A erythrocytes was correct in 91 per cent of the laboratories. Antibody identification studies were carried out by 67 per cent of the respondents, and the identification of two different Rh antibodies was correct in 90 per cent of laboratories. Although the Survey indicates good performance by most laboratories, there is a need for continuing education as well as improvement in technical procedures in some laboratories.
