Abstract
The self-assembly reaction of MnCl2·4H2O, Ce(acac)3·xH2O (acac = deprotonated acetylacetone), and acenaphthenequinone dioxime (acndH2) in a mixture of methanol and dimethyl formamide (DMF) has led to a [MnIII4CeIV6] cluster MnIII4CeIV6(μ-O)8(acnd)4(OAc)4(acac)4(CH3O)4(DMF)4 (1) with a supertehedral T2 metal topology. Owing to the helical alignment of the supertetrahedral clusters, compound 1 shows a weak second-harmonic generation (SHG) response. Magnetic studies reveal very weak antiferromagnetic couplings between the paramagnetic MnIII ions.
