Abstract

We reported the synthesis and properties of an unexpected superhelicene-like 1 in which two flat polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are connected via a central eight-membered ring. The structural analysis of 1 was performed by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry measurements together with single-crystal X-ray analysis. The photophysical properties and aromaticity of 1 were further investigated by the absorption and emission spectroscopies in combination with theoretical calculations.
